Outing Myself Graphically as an Obama Fan

My Obama yard sign went up today.  I was going to wait until Barack Obama won the Democratic nomination before putting up a sign, but it’s apparent  that someone  will have to shoot a tranquilizing dart into the thigh of Hillary’s pantsuit before she can be dragged offimg_0109.JPG the stage.  Not that I’m saying she doesn’t have that right, mind you.

After HRC’s recent comments, why not write “White Person for” across the top?

I envision bumper stickers like “Hard-Working American for Obama” or “College Dropout for Obama.” Based on Bill’s appearance during her speech Tuesday, she may have the red-faced people’s vote sewn up.

My sign: Former Hillary Admirer for Obama.

  • James Tucker

I envision bumper stickers like “Hamas for Obama”. I guess that means I have “lost my bearings.”

  • Jenny

    Nice! Love it! Obama 08.

  • Charles Geilich

No, James, nasty comments about Hamas and Obama aside, you’re fine. I may be the one who’s lost his bearings. After all, I’m white and over 40, yet I still don’t support Hillary.

  • Charles Geilich

And notice, please, the green lawn, achieved with absolutely no use of sprinklers.

  • anon.

Any sticker that says “Hamas” could get you on the terrorist watchlist. But if you like Rush, you could do “Dittohead for Hillary.”

  • BusyGuy

Since you are outing yourself as a Democrat in the PC, BusyGuy feels he must advise you of the following (for source, see Merritt’s Park Cities “rule” book) directives:

You have summarily just been removed from all prayer lists (except those earnestly working to switch you to McCain).

You will never receive packages or mail inadvertantly delivered to your neighbor’s house. Ever. Even if it’s from Neiman’s.

You will never be Grand Marshall of the 4th of July parade, even if you can unicycle and sing “Yankee Doodle Dandy” at the same time.

Finally, your child will have permanent psychological scars from being the only Democrat supporter in his/her classroom’s “mock” elections. Happened to my kid in 2004…she’s never been the same since.

The BusyGuy is an Obama fan, but also a gutless wonder who wishes to don the peppermint-striped jacket of Parade Grand Marshall next year. You stand alone in your act of neighborhood naughtiness.

  • Charles Geilich

BusyGuy is right, and I considered that before coming out of my political closet. I decided, though, that the taunting would make my children tougher. And, I’ve never been much for parades, anyway.

(The mail thing kind of worries me because, Lord knows, our mail, and our neighbors’ mail, is misdirected everyday).

But, hey, BusyGuy, I do have a couple of extra Obama signs, if you’re interested.

  • gmom

    Charles, I want one!!!!

  • PLD

Maybe your endorsement is all the big O for Hillary to see there is no hope.

  • PLD

Opps. I was im’ing my son instead of focusing on my comment. What I meant to say was…
Maybe your endorsement for the big O is all Hillary needs to see there is no hope.

  • James Tucker

    Thanks Charles,
I too am over 40, white and didn’t support Hillary. And to the BusyGuy the first bumper sticker I saw for this election season was last spring on a brand new Mercedes 500s parked at Germany Park. It was an “Obama 08″ sticker. Other people have already moved your political closet out into a Park Cities parking lot. You might as well stick your head out and let us know who you like. I think the city is strong enough to weather 2 political parties. As individuals we are going to have to be tougher. Charles, as nasty you think that comment about Obama and Hamas was it will be end up being an issue in the general election.

  • Charles Geilich

You know, Gmom, the Obama gear is hard to come by. His local Dallas headquarters had no stickers or signs, at least when I checked, and I had to order online. My lapel pin is still on back order, as well as my full-car-covering decal with the phosphorescent lettering.

And see, James, we’re already finding common ground: white and over 40, not supporting Hillary. It’s a start. And as Hillary herself might put it, you don’t support terrorists, either … as far as I know. : )

  • No Pantsuits in the White House

Lump me in those over 40 Obies.

Grew up in a household where my father was the only Republican in his Dept. of Justice division in D.C. under Bobby Kennedy. He will be spinning in his grave when I slap on my Obama ‘08 sticker on the SUV.

Had enough of the Bush/Clinton political dynasties.

  • ClosetPCDem

I was at the homecoming nominee presentation at the HPHS football game last fall and noticed that about 90% of the nominees were members of a high school Republicans club (even those that were not Dan Branch’s daughter). Is membership in that organization (along with long straight hair parted on the side) a requirement to achieve social stature at the high school? Is there a club for HPHS Democrats? If so, do they have curly hair?

  • No Pantsuits in the White House

Nothing about stature, more about who the peeps support.

There is a Young Democrats club - curly hair optional.

  • Charles Geilich

My law firm would be willing to sponsor the tee shirts of a Young Democrats club. That probably wouldn’t run into big bucks.

  • Merritt Patterson

Go Hillary, until the very, very, very bitter end.

  • James Tucker

    Emphasis on the bitter

  • ClosetPCDem

Merritt, you’re under 65, well-educated, affluent and don’t look seem like the type to shoot animals. What do you see in her that causes you to join the blue collar, whiskey-swilling, guntoting crowd?

  • Charles Geilich

Well, Merritt, my concern is that the end will be bitter, indeed. I hope Hillary cares about the party at least as much as she cares for herself. But I admire your loyalty.

  • Merritt Patterson

    Thanks, Chuck. I am loyal.

  • Charles Geilich

And as for the idea that Hillary should be Barack’s running mate: no way. As Vice President, Clinton would be ready on Day One. To poison Obama’s food.

(Sorry, Merritt. You are still my favorite Clinton supporter).

  • James Tucker

I heard that she was on John McCain’s list for VP candidate if she dosen’t get the nod from her Party.

  • MK

I think Hillary would rather gnaw off her own arm than be anyone’s VP, ’specially McCain’s.

  • James Tucker

I think she wants to be president badly enough that she would be willing to serve in that capacity. Look at what she is doing now. She needs to be nicknamed Tenacious H. Who better to get behind in terms of time; Obama who will surely go for two terms or McCain who might only serve one? McCain is not paying particular attention to the conservatives in the GOP but is looking to build in middle with both parties.

  • Charles Geilich

It has been amusing to sit at my desk and look out my front window as walkers and joggers stare at my Obama sign in passing. One of them did a double-take, like she couldn’t believe what she was seeing.

  • JJ newman

Where can I pick up an Obama/Wright sign for my yard?

  • Charles Geilich

Republican headquarters, I’m sure. It’s the castle just behind the moat.

  • anon.

James, I’ll match your “Hamas for Obama” with an “OPEC for McCain.” I predict falling gas prices in October to help the Republicans look better. It happened in 2004.

  • graham

FYI - I found my Obama/Wright sign in Karl Rove’s office inside the castle

  • Charles Geilich

Anon. is right. Gas prices should fall, unless we invade Iran.

(I am a bit concerned about my Catpcha words: “4 1/2 relics.”

  • anon.

Did you see the “Hamas for Obama” signs too while Rove-ing in the GOP castle?

If Hamas really wanted Obama to win, wouldn’t they have remained silent or endorsed his opponent?

  • Charles Geilich

Hey, by the way, wasn’t it McCain’s “religious advisor,” Hagee, who called the Catholic church ‘The Great Whore,’ the ‘apostate church,’ the ‘anti-Christ’ and a ‘false cult system?’ I’m pretty sure it was.

You’ve got to watch those pastors.

  • anon.

    “OPEC for McCain/Hagee”

  • chickenlittle

You are not alone, Charles, there are more Obama supporters here in the bubble than you might think. It might have been me who did the double take - I was looking to see if I could see the people in the house just in case it was yours.

  • Dubai

Obama is the candidate of the media and even if he wins the Democratic nomination (and that is not certain today), he won’t beat McCain.

The result will be Hillary in 2012.

Sorry everyone, I have a policy about internet free weekends. I don’t particularly feel like defending John McCain, John Hagee, or the RNC at this time. However, my comments about Hamas for Obama bumper sticker reflect a real world concern and shouldn’t be ignored by his supporters.
Here is a link to the original April interview of Hamas’ political advisor, Ahmed Yousef, by Aaron Klein

Here is the audio of the interveiw in case you think the comment was taken out of context.

This situation was further complicated by David Axelrod’s response to questions about the interview. He was “flattered” by the comparison to Kennedy, but didn’t distance Obama from the rest of the interview.

And some breaking news about Obama 08’s informal connection with Hamas.

    http://www.suntimes.com/news/s.....11.article
I am assuming that the Robert Malley quoted in the April ‘08 article above is the same Robert Malley who just resigned.

In an effort towards full disclosure Obama and McCain have the same stated position towards Hamas.

  • Charles Geilich

Hey, anon, maybe I should write “bitter, hard-working, God-fearing white person for Obama.” That could give the so-called political experts fits.

  • anon.

I like it. You could even add “gun-clinging.” I doubt you are, but you don’t seem bitter either.

  • Charles Geilich

Thanks, anon., I don’t think I’m bitter, either. But I suppose, in general, it’s better to be a “gun clinger” than a “gun slinger.”

(I have no idea what that means, I was just excited to rhyme).
