Yard Art: Chic or Tacky?

An Overheardian opposed to yard art asked for reader opinion. I’m torn. I’m not such a fan of cutsey little flags but this circle thing and it’s friend in the background live in the lawn of an elegant Highland Park estate. Chic or tacky? In an effort to get less hate mail this week I lean toward chic. fountain-005_edited.jpg

That is tasteful, at the very least. It could be a whole lot worse! (Palm trees, fake ducks anyone?)

Can we hear some real gossip please?

I like the circle. I believe it demonstrates how HP and UP join together as one big bubble.

    Looks like a giant diaphragm.

Yea Merritt, come to the bright side. That is way better than the “He has risen” crosses everywhere or the school event signs. ATTAWAYTOGO (Camp Longhorn)

It’s quiet and tasteful. Why did this landscape get picked for an online critique when right around the corner in UP on University at Don Carter’s mansion there is a GIANT/OVERSCALED bronze cowboy and his horsey trying their best to fit in with the Park Cities herd? It’s bigger than my house AND Godzilla.

One more thing. When it comes to color choices in landscape accessories (yard art), white or off-white is more preferable to bronze, because it won’t accentuate the bird droppings.

Gadfly, You MUST take that thing about the Carters back. You simply must. They have the best candy.

will i appear petty if i cluck my tongue over the errant apostrophe in the it’s? i’m certain it’s out of character for merritt, i’m just concerned about the example it’s setting. (all lower-case, now that’s completely different.)

TG, I’ll get my red Sharpie out and read everything you’ve ever written. I’ll be in touch.

Merritt, I’m always stepping in it. You were super nice to give me a second chance to redeem myself. I mean, you could have just deleted my comment. Since I’m too old to “trigger” treat, I haven’t kept up with the halloween scene beyond my own block. The Carters sound like really warm hearted folks. And I hope that they won’t boycott your child from any future Halloween fun because of this errant blogging moment. It’s my bad, not yours.

Folks, can you keep a secret? The people who selected this elegant yard art are the same ones who weighed in on the design for our giant gushing urn factory fountain. These earnest folk have since been placed in a witness protection program, and any attempt to hunt them down will be futile. Okay, okay. In all seriousnessish, they are simply big Obama fans. Surely we can all get past our rather vast differences in taste. I happen to love pink flamingos and gnomes. And seriouslyish, who among us can deny that if we saw it on the lawns of Sparkman-Hillcrest, we’d love it. We’d covet it.
