Laura and Jenna Bush Visit St. Monica Catholic School

Students at the St. Monica Catholic School got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity Wednesday when First Lady Laura Bush and her daughter Jenna visited the school to read their new children’s book, “Read All About It!”

The appearance is one of many the duo is making around the country to push the new book, the story of schoolboy Tyrone, a notorious class clown that hates to read, that is until he discovers how fun books can be.St. Monica students were given the opportunity to submit questions to the Bushes ahead of time, which were screened and asked by head librarian Ruth Talkington [below in picture, far left]

So what does an elementary school student want to know about being married to the president? One student asked if the First Lady has to make her own breakfast. Another wanted to know if the Secret Service agents stay in their bedroom while the Bushes are asleep.

I could never get a straight answer as to why the St. Monica school was chosen for the event, but the school is a big customer of Borders bookstore, which is sponsoring the tour, and Talkington apparently does a lot with the Preston Royal location. I would have guessed they’d do it at Preston Hollow Elementary, where first twins Jenna and Barbara Bush both attended.

I wonder if they did any house hunting?

Despite the number of hard hitting questions by the elementary press corps, the group of reporters and photographers in attendance were restricted to a small space in the back of the gymnasium, and unfortunately, I wasn’t able to ask my dying question:

If you were a hotdog and you were starving, would you eat yourself?
