I didn’t take this photo until 6:00 Sunday evening when most of the bubbles had disappeared. But if you came within a block of the new funk-errific fountain at Lovers and Hillcrest early Sunday morning, you know it looked like it was snowing. Of course, the Snider Plaza fountain was bubbling over too.
So, OK, cute stunt but is that all you high school kids have up your sleeve? Starting to seem kind of lame if you ask me.
I know it’s not exactly in the Park Cities, but nevertheless, First Lady Laura and daughter Jenna Bush will be at Borders in the Preston Royal Shopping Center at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The duo will be reading from their new children’s book “Read All About It!”
I wonder which book will resonate better with North Texas readers, the Bushes’ book, or Terrell Owens’ gem, “Little T Learns to Share?”
If you’ve ever been around the first family, you know how tough security can be, so you might try avoiding the entire Preston Hollow area unless you have to be there.
A certain non-blogging member of the People Newspapers staff told me about a conversation she had over the weekend in which a friend of hers said “everyone” in town was abuzz about why everyone who writes for Park Cities People hates the Park Cities.
This Park Cities resident pointed to our editorial about the fountain, Talmage Boston’s column about big houses, and Merritt as evidence that we have nothing but disdain for this community.
This is, of course, ridiculous. There are many reasons for loving the Park Cities, just as there will always be criticisms about specific aspects of the community which this blog (and the companion newspaper) will argue.
May I offer a few examples of our love fully on display in print: Here. And here. This one. And that one.
Feel free to comment on why you love the Park Cities below.
Well, on the basketball court, at least. HPISD third-graders Michael Clarke, Jack Toohey, Babe Walker, and Cash Carter recently won the Lake Highlands Hoop It Up three-on-three tournament for the third year in a row.
The Highland Park baseball team will be playing a school in the first round of the playoffs that has become very familiar for the school’s boys athletics programs.
The Scots (28-5) will face Frisco (15-12) in a best-of-three bi-district series. Game 1 is at 7:30 Friday night at Scotland Yard. Game 2 will be at noon Saturday at Frisco. If necessary, Game 3 will be 30 minutes after Game 2.
The baseball team will be the third Scots team to draw Frisco in the first round of the playoffs. The football team beat the Raccoons, 49-28, in bi-district. The boys basketball team also knocked off Frisco, 62-43, in bi-district.
A property hunting Overheardian refuses to pay clients of agent Lukisha Williams $329.96 per square foot for a home in “Highland Parks.” He prefers the Park Cities. Maybe it would help if there was a photo of the home to just blow us away.
This has nothing to do with Park Cities, but since you all gave me some great advice, I thought I’d give you a bit of an update on my half-marathon this past weekend. (more…)
The Highlander, Highland Park High School’s newspaper yearbook, has announced its senior staff for 2008-09 will be: Hallie Rambie, editor-in-chief; Heather Pitcher, editor-in-chief; Beth Pinto, senior editor of photography; Kendall Milano, editor-in-chief; Abby Carroll, senior editor; Lindsey Boston, ads editor-in-chief; and Casey Brundage, senior editor. Jordan Gray, senior editor, is not pictured.
Just an observation, but how does a newsroom work with three editors-in-chief and three senior editors? I wonder if Jason would approve some sort of power-sharing agreement like that here.
