The Face of Charles Geilich

charles-geilich.jpgCharles, I think you’re right. Tony Romo nodded because he recognized you as an Overheard parklebrity. But there might still be a few people out there that don’t know what you look like. Risking that you’ll be pestered for autographs in public I’ve included this photo as a launch for The Face of Charles Geilich campaign. Â

Tony Romo: Golfer

I wasn’t sure it was blogworthy, but Merritt says it is, so I’ll post this: I saw Tony Romo yesterday while golfing at Gleneagles Golf Course.

Open Letter to Long Whang

Stop commenting on this blog. First, it’s extremely juvenile for you to use a name only a 14-year-old boy would snicker at, and I’m tired of deleting all of your ridiculous comments. It wastes my time. What’s worse, on the rare occasion you actually have something productive to say, I delete it anyway because of that stupid pseudonym. And if you’re going to make snarky comments, at least be witty. That I can appreciate.

To the Overheardians who have caught one of these comments before we have had time to delete it, I apologize. Comments are on, and I fully expect a gem of a response from you, Long Whang, which I intend to promptly delete. Unless, of course, you decide to be an adult.

Bengal Coast, Been There Done That

Finally did Bengal Coast. Good food but a waiter that stood at the table too long, a lingerer.

Trash Can Rules Out of Hand?

This Overheardian/code violator is positive there are others who can feel his pain:

I have lived in University Park since 2001. I pay my taxes, don’t complain and generally go about my business.

I have never had any trouble until I recently encountered the UP Neighborhood Integrity Officer regarding an alleged code violation. I have received notices from the city in the past regarding things like putting my street address on the fence in the alleyway and never complained about complying with those sorts of things.

The Highland Park hockey team opened the city playoffs last night with a 4-2 victory over Flower Mound Marcus at the Duncanville StarCenter. Michael Crow had two goals and two assists in the victory.

HP Swimmers Earn Spots on All-State Team

Highland Park had a total of 17 athletes earn spots on the Texas Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association’s Class 4A All-State Swimming and Diving Teams.

Five Scots girls were named All-State in the individual events. Hannah Ferrin earned the most honors by being named to the first team in four different events, including the 50 free, 100 free, 100 fly, and 100 back. Earning first-team honors in two events were Allison Arnold (200 and 500 free), Megan Arnold (200 IM and 500 free) and Bolton Harris (100 and 200 free).  Delaney Rolfe was named first team in the 200 free and second team in the 500 free.

Two Scot boys were named All-State. Fernando Lara earned first-team honors in the 200 IM and the 500 free, and Michael Birch was named first team in diving.

Barton Leads Lady Scots to District 10-4A Title

The Highland Park Lady Scots golf team finished in the top two spots at the District 10-4A golf tournament on Tuesday at the 5,472-yard, Par 72 Waterview Golf Club in Rowlett.

The No. 1 Lady Scots team shot a 660 (328-332) to finish well ahead of the No. 2 HP team, which finished with a 754 (387-367). Both teams will be representing the district at the Class 4A Region II Tournament April 21-22 at Denton’s Robson Ranch.

Lila Barton won her fourth consecutive district championship by finishing with a two-day total of 152. She was one of eight Lady Scots to finish in the top 10.

Young Notches Win in First Start of Season

Former Highland Park pitcher Chris Young had a solid first start of the season, going 5 2/3 innings in the Padres’ 2-1 win over the Houston Astros last night.

Young walked five, but surrendered only one earned run to pick up the victory.

Snitch Wanted

Ace Preston Hollow reporter Austin Kilgore is hard at work tracking down information about Kay Bailey Hutchison’s alleged stalker, but he came across a problem: He can’t get his hands on the incident report. The DPD PIO, Kevin Janse, told Kilgore that the report “is not out there” because it’s being handled by criminal intelligence, which deals with high-profile people like dignitaries and KBH.
Kilgore wanted to know why the DMN had info on the arrest, and this is what Janse told him: “That’s the Dallas Morning News having connections and snitches in the department. It didn’t come through our office.”

Consider this a want ad: Kilgore needs a snitch. (Which reminds me of this.)

Crystal Charity Ball’s 10 Best Dressed

Hot off the presses, ladies and gents. The CCB 10 best dressed are:

Charlotte Anderson, Pam Busbee, Alison Farrow, Ola Fojtasek, Kelli Ford, Heather Furniss, Libby Hunt, Di Johnston, Betsy Sowell, and Amy Turner. The hall of fame honoree is Norma Hunt.

Either I’m suffering from a mean case of deja vu or we’ve seen these names somewhere before. Congrats, ladies.

Ring of Fire

37254390.jpgI’ve decided against getting a nipple ring after reading about the Dallas woman who was subjected to a humiliating search at the Lubbock airport by the TSA.   The removal of the adornment involved pliers.  On the other hand, Ms. Hamlin did recieve the “Bold Spirit Award” from the “Women’s Leadership Exchange” for, and I quote the co-founder of the group, Andrea March, “the courage that [Hamlin] showed.”

Anyway, wear body bling at your own risk, at least for the time being.

Monitoring the Scene

So far today:

  1. The new mod fountain at Lovers and Hillcrest now has lights. It seems they’re unveiling it in parts. Several city employees stood watching it for a long time this morning, maybe it’s supposed to do something else.
  2. There are a lot of glam Real Estate agents in town, see the comments here.
  3. UPPA Spring Gift Market is in full swing at University Park Elementary.
