Re: 7th Grade Potheads

The most eye opening and valuable information I could possibly receive as a parent is coming to me through the comments section of this post concerning the 7th grade girls at HPMS caught smoking pot. Check out comments by students “NT” and “WOW.”

I mean, not only are they up at 10:54 on a school night reading blogs but they already knew about this drug stuff, and sex too. But HPISD is paying off, they’re great writers. What they have to say is stuff we need to know. Students, keep it coming. How do we stop our kids from doing drugs? Give us the scoop.

And if you really don’t want it happening in your school, e-mail me the dirt on where it happens and how they get the drugs and why the adults don’t see it. We’ll work on it.

Thanks for your comments WOW and NT we parents appreciate it. I Just want to let you know something. We grew up in the 60’s and 70’s when drug use was much more prevelant and alcohol use by teens was almost acceptable. Free love is what we called hooking up. Your parents do have secrets. Your Dad can probably tell you by the smell of a joint where it was grown and even what time of the year it was cut. And when he compliments your mom on the great hands she’s got its not because she can peel potatoes it’s because in high school she could roll the fastest, tightest joint of any of his friends. We are not naive. If your parents were lucky enough to have the skill to be able to fend off the peer pressure of drug use then I can assure they had friends who weren’t. If your parents did drugs then it is likely that you won’t be able to get away with much. We object to this kind of behavior in you because we know from experience that it is and/ or will be detrimental to you. It will impact your life negatively. We don’t want you to get caught in the same traps we did. But we do appreciate your comments. We parents will be flocking to Walgreens and CVS to get drug testing kits for our kids. The next time you ask your mom or dad for some money to go to the mall don’t be suprised if we put a little cup in your hand first. Gee, I hope you did’t brag about these posts to your friends; because of these posts there will be additional drug testing going on in the PC this month. We also get to do something you don’t get to do. We get to vote. Now that you have exposed the rampant drug use going on at MIS and HPHS I hope that the parents can get the attention of the school board and the school administrators. It is not just an election about board members this year it is also about BOND MONEY! Bond elections always give the parents a little more leverage to extract concessions from a school, even one run as well as this one is. I also have an outright question to the school board and the administrators (yes kids they read this blog too): The UP police, with the tacit approval of HPISD, has stepped up patrols to catch people making calls on their cell phones in school zones. Maybe you can find the additional funds and manpower to make our schools drug free.

Thanks Trey, but an obscure refrence to a study done in Switzerland posted by a group whose stated aims are

” that the greatest harm associated with marijuana is prison. To this end, MPP focuses on removing criminal penalties for marijuana use, with a particular emphasis on making marijuana medically available to seriously ill people who have the approval of their doctors.”

is not going to excuse smoking pot. This study flies in the face of hundreds of studies that show that marijuana use is harmful on a physical and mental basis.
