Water, Water, Everywhere …

With my utility bill from the City of University Park, I received this month my copy of The Arbor, UP’s town newsletter, which, by the way, is very well done.

What bothered me, though, was the following announcement: “Outdoor watering ban ends.”

The newsletter goes on to say “Residents can now water at any time of the day or night.”  Woo Hoo!  Get out the hose, Marge, and let her go!

Of course, I can run back and forth across Central Expressway, too, but would it be wise?  Why does UP only ban outdoor watering in daylight hours from April 1 to October 31?  Oh, I understand about evaporation and winter sunlight, but in an era of diminishing resources, shouldn’t we take reasonable steps to conserve water year round?

Or perhaps it’s more important to have that unnaturally-green winter grass dressing up your lawn like a cheap face lift.

I agree, but it is all about appearances in the bubble.
