Each month the Morning News recognizes the “newstip of the month” that comes from one of its staffers. There’s an e-mail address to which non-reporters or reporters on different beats can send their ideas for stories. An Overheardian shared the October winner with me:
Diane Jennings, writer for TSW, wins the October 2007 newstip award for her story tip on a $15 million parcel of land for sale in Highland Park. According to staff writer Ian McCann’s A-1 story, “Experts familiar with Park Cities real estate say that the property is one-of-a-kind, and not just for its price. It’s one of the few vacant tracts available for development in Highland Park, a town that’s been largely built out for decades.” The story was published on Oct. 19 with photos by Jim Mahoney.
We here at People Newspapers are honored and humbled that our story , published in July, was worthy of receiving the DMN’s newstip award for an article three months later. The prize for “newstip of the month” is an extra-special space in the DMN parking lot downtown. We could make use of some free parking for a month. Diane, our reporters would be happy to share it with you.
Keep up the good work, Jason!
