Habitat Hat Day

Today the 4th grade UP Elementary students unveil their habitat hat projects. This annual assignment requires that each child research an animal and create the habitat on a hat. Then they wear it all day. They’re HUGE, we’re talking sombrero.

I heard from one non-crafty mom that said she spent about $75 on supplies, you know, various adhesives and little fake trees etc. She also went to several craft stores and claims to have added another $30 to the project total in gasoline.

Not to brag or anything, well maybe a little, but Ej’s hat was too cool. She had mountains and basins, a lake, the sun, a cave complete with hand-painted stones, and more indigenous vegetation than you have ever seen on head gear. $9 in supplies- yep. You can’t touch this, baby.

Sandy, of course I’ll be posting some as soon as I take them. See, I couldn’t snap any pix on the way out this morning because we were running late. Does this happen to you? My first grader wants to grow her hair long but SCREAMS when it needs to be brushed, ruining everyones morning. Then we could only find one of any shoe and the library books and backpacks were MIA. Been there?
