HP Sports Rankings Update

Here’s the latest on HP’s fall sports:

HP football is 3rd in the state and remains undefeated at 6-0 and 3-0 in district.

HP volleyball is 3rd in the state and plays for the district title at home Friday night.

HP team tennis is still undefeated (surprise) and hosts the district tournament beginning Friday and continuing Saturday.

HP’s cross country teams had more successful outings last Saturday. The HP girls are ranked fourth in the state.

HP football moves up to 3rd in the AP State Poll going into its biggest game of the season. The Scots (6-0, 3-0) host Richardson Pearce (6-0, 3-0) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the game that should determine the District 10-4A title. Even if HP wins, Scots fans should hope Pearce still makes the playoffs, therefore sending HP into the Division II (smaller schools) bracket, which looks to be the easier bracket at midseason.

Across the parking lot and just an hour earlier, HP volleyball (25-9, 12-0) hosts Pearce (11-1 in district) for the district volleyball crown. HP is ranked 3rd in the Texas Girls Coaches’ Association poll again this week, and, at least for now, is the favorite among 4-5 teams who should contend for Region II’s berth to the state tournament.
The team tennis team will, yawn, win another district title this weekend. But its potential for another state run, according to rumors, are not as strong this season as in year’s past. Its singles players, so the rumor goes, are not performing as strong as they’re accustomed to. But HP should still reach the UIL Championships.

HP cross country heads to the district meet next week. On the girls’ side, expect a great race among Forney, Pearce, and HP. All three are ranked in the state’s top 10. The top three teams advance to regionals, so all three will likely get a November rematch.
