Not being someone who bleeds orange or crimson, I don’t have a stake in this weekend’s big game. Growing up through junior high and high school, SMU had its winning teams working and was the talk of Dallas except for this one weekend. To me, the first Saturday in October was always SMU-Baylor weekend. Because SMU-Baylor was always the better game that always drew second fiddle to UT-OU, and rightly so.
Just for the record, from 1980-86, the years I referenced above, the UT-OU series was 3-3-1, and only three games were decided by a touchdown or less with one tie. SMU, meanwhile, was 5-2 against Baylor with an average winning margin of 5 points and five of the seven games were decided by a touchdown or less. It was the more exciting game every year.
That said, here’s the sports editor’s prediction for the Big Game: OU 38, UT 17. And remember, I’m a professional.
