I’ve got a column coming up in this week’s paper about Southlake Carroll’s football situation, and how it compares to Highland Park’s. Not in terms of wins and losses, but the overall experience of going to a game at each school. I attended the Carroll-Lake Highlands game last Friday, and was quite impressed. I’ll save the key points for Friday, but here’s at least one off-beat observation on both team’s stadiums.
Highlander Stadium (Love Field) and Dragon Stadium (D/FW) each have outstanding views of the area’s two major airports. The sightlines are great, especially for an aviation buff like me who enjoys watching the planes during timeouts. The difference is Highlander is a safe distance away from Love. Dragon, not so much. Walking to the press box last Friday, I swear a guy in seat 16H waved at me out of a 757 on final approach into D/FW. I kid you not - you can see the passengers’ faces those planes are so low.
