Recently I mentioned seeing the sign go up at the new Mexican joint in Snider Plaza, Bandito’s. They are scheduled for a “soft opening” on Monday. I stopped in for the tasting today and I think we’ve got a keeper.
One of 5 owners, lifelong UP resident and 1979 HPHS graduate Buddy Cramer said that his theory about opening a successful neighborhood restaurant is, “you start with a good, strong margarita.”
So, of course, I had to try it for research purposes only. And strong it is! Mighty yummy too.
The location is much brighter than the old place and a bit more hip. It’s a great bar/ hangout that happens to serve good food.
I think it will have a nice long life perfectly tucked between Kuby’s and Half Shells. But just in case, they haven’t made any long term commitments with uniforms. Their t-shirts read, “Serving the Park Cities since last Thursday.”
