DATELINE: BEAVER CREEK 7:30 PM MOUNTAIN

Tanya may be on the beach somewhere (I think) but those of us in Beaver Creek are sunning and sweating just as much! Daytime highs are mid 60s and it’s sunny! Lot’s of fried faces walking around. (Dr. Toledo’s office is going to be busy soon) . . . . Seeing lots of Parkies navigating the morning chaos that is ski school.

Lots of people are in Vail, too. Want to share with you a story about two of the nicest people ever to grace the PC scene . . . Debra and Lewis Ropp. Debra and Lewis were on the slopes in Vail Monday and saw a Ski Patrol 911 message board that read “Connor Cook’s parents call Ski Patrol - serious injury.” Connor Cook is my 6th grade son’s name so Debra, thinking it was my son, called Ski Patrol and learned that the injured Connor Cook is from Dallas and his parent’s couldn’t be found. Debra and her son, Bo, thinking it was my son, went to the Vail hospital to comfort this little boy who turned out to be a different Connor Cook from Dallas. I don’t know how the other Connor Cook is - I hope he’s OK. But Debra was so awesome to make the effort. That is true greatness. Thank you, Debra!

More later . . .

HPHS CHEERLEADER TRYOUTS

What do you think about the HPHS cheerleader  tryout scoring system, 30% student body vote, 70% judges? It seems many districts are moving away from student voting since cheerleading is much more of a sport than it once was.

If peers can’t vote for cheerleader how will social heirarchy be determined? It would screw up everything.

GET WELL TO KUBY’S MANAGER

Those of you who know and love Kuby’s manager, Steve (it’s like Cher, no last name needed), need to drop by and sign the card being passed around the restaurant. He had a heart attack on Friday evening and is in good condition at a Plano hospital.

Get well, Steve!

RE: UPDATE FROM PARADISE

Oh, Tanya, I knew I liked you. I think we could call my travel section PC People Explorer, or PC People: Expedition Borneo. It could focus on PCers trekking across the globe. Community goes international. Someone call Wick.

Your hints have me thinking… There was a swim-up bar at a hotel I stayed at in Cancun a long time ago, but that seems too easy.
Am I getting warmer?

PARK CITIES NANNY IN MYSPACE

Okay…I’m about to start working again but this is too good to wait. Tara is a nanny in the Park Cities. During the interview I bet the family forgot to ask about her dreams. She reveals in her blog, “so… freaky, but lately i have had a couple semi-reoccurrent dreams regarding aliens.”

Hmmmmm.

HP SPEECH THERAPIST WITH NOT SO NICE LANGUAGE

Amy is a MySpace.com user and Dallas resident that says she is a “speech therapist to rich ass kids in Highland Park”.

NEW BURGER HOUSE LOCATION

The Park Cities hamburger empire, Burger House, opens up shop in Austin. Lucky Longhorns…

WE HAD IT FIRST, REALLY

I was bummed this morning when I saw the DMN’s front-page Metro story on the mosaic at St. Ann’s, soon to be a focal point of what will be St. Ann’s Court, a Harwood International office tower.  This week’s Real Estate story by Paige Phelps (which went to press Friday, just FYI) features a different take on the subject, focusing on the involvement of PC’s own Gabriel Barbier-Mueller in the project and the positive steps taken by Harwood to placate and work with the St. Ann’s alumni group and those with ties to the former Catholic school site. In our story, Juanita Barrera, the first graduate of St. Ann’s Commercial High School, had this to say about Harwood’s efforts:

“I feel now that [Harwood] did something good to at least keep the name of the school and keep the Virgin Mary that was in front of the high school because we’re going to have something to remember where we used to go.”

MYSPACE PICKS OF THE DAY: MASE AND FUTURE

Mase will graduate from Highland Park High School in 2009 but says he is 21 years old (probably because he admits to drinking alcohol last month). He hates school, says his biceps are his best physical feature and that he has probably stolen something in the last 6 months but doesn’t remember. He has 3 piercings and 1 tatoo but only regrets 2 things from his past.

Future is a 17 year old Highland Park High School student planning to graduate in 2008. He lists his occupation as “climber and pimp” and his income at $250,000 or higher.

SIDEWALK SHOWDOWN

University Park resident Jennifer Culbertson goes to court, again, to win freedom from the sidewalk police.

RE: UPDATE FROM PARADISE

Kristiana, I vote that the PC People send you on a site inspection trip in hopes of starting a travel section.  Shall I tell the hotel to book you a room?  I will tell you that this resort has a swim up bar at the “quiet pool” and you simply give them your room number – very dangerous, especially as the day goes on and the hot sun absorbs on my skin.  The ocean breeze is constant and we can hear the ocean waves all day and night.  Like one of those noise makers set to “ocean”.  I think I still have mine from when the kids were babies.  Perhaps I will get it out and set it to ocean when I get home.  It will drown out the “every day, normal life” noise…

Yes, you are dating yourself by asking where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?  You might as well ask “where’s Waldo” as well.
